In last week’s blog post, Christianne stated that one of the reasons the practice of spiritual direction was so seminal to her journey was because her spiritual director reflected God’s gaze upon her. This struck a cord with me by way of the opposite.

You may have heard of spiritual direction before and wondered what it is. Is it mentoring? Counseling? Some strange way of submitting yourself to an authority who tells you what to do in your spiritual life?

It’s actually none of those things.

Fairly consistently, since about 1985, I’ve kept a journal. Well, I write in them. I write the stuff that happens to me in them, the stuff happening in and around me.
